Artwork created by Memphis artist Brantley Ellzey now hangs in the lobby of Methodist Olive Branch Hospital. A Joyful Heart is Good Medicine (Proverbs 17:22) is a celebration of the new Methodist Olive Branch Hospital and the community it serves. The piece is constructed from tens of thousands of meticulously hand-rolled pages of printed materials collected from the region and from the archives of Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare. The pages form a colorful and textured construction but also serve as a time capsule commemorating the construction of the hospital.
The lower section of the piece depicts the beautiful North Mississippi landscape surrounding the new facility. The upper section presents a soaring dove holding an olive branch—a reference both to the home of the new hospital and to the elation that good health brings. The dove is composed of the actual blueprints for the new building. Surrounding the dove are circles—a brilliant sun and gentle clouds filling the sky—calling to mind the energy of a beautiful day while complementing a motif found throughout the new building.
